The Challenges

The University’s main campus is set on 1542 acres in the lush Nyagambu River Valley, across the road from the historic Old Mutare UMC Mission, founded in 1896. From a humble start in refurbished farm buildings, 39 modern structures now make up the campus, all purpose-built and debt-free.

However, farming and mining operations around the campus are presenting conservation challenges that research and advocacy by Africa University can address. In order to ensure that future generations enjoy a beautiful campus that supports effective teaching and learning, the University must protect the campus environment as well as maintain, upgrade, and replace equipment and facilities on a continuing basis.
