AU Named Best by Zimbabwe Business Leaders

Africa University is the 2014 winner of the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce, (ZNCC), Best Human Resources Development/Contributing to Business Award.

In announcing the award in May, Zimbabwe business leaders highlighted Africa University’s commitment to excellence and its contributions in the areas of research, leadership development and community service.

“As Africa University, we put a lot of emphasis on the quality of education for our students,” said the vice chancellor, Dr. Fanuel Tagwira. “We are delighted to be recognized for doing what we love to do. We are also aware that most of our graduates are occupying leadership positions across the continent and it speaks volumes about the university and the quality of its staff.” Students in laboratory with Jefta Tabarira

Tagwira noted that the university’s core mission to provide the nations of Africa with the new knowledge and proactive leadership needed to achieve their development goals.

“This award bears testimony not only to the pursuit of that mission, but to the attainment of the mission,” Tagwira said. “We have the best infrastructure in Zimbabwe and it affords our students a (good) quality of life and unlimited access to resources.”

The ZNCC award is the second national accolade for Africa University in two years. The university won the 2013 Service Excellence Award in the higher education sector. That award was presented by the Contact Centre Association of Zimbabwe (CCAZ), in partnership with the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, and the Zimbabwe Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
