Direct and Endowed Scholarships

SCHOLARSHIPS: THE LIFELINE FOR STUDENTS AT AFRICA UNIVERSITY

For the current academic year (2013-14), approximately forty-three (43%) percent of Africa University's total student population has received some form of financial assistance so far. Were it not for this financial assistance, the audacious dreams of many AU students would be deferred.

The Development Office offers individuals, local churches, districts, and annual conferences three ways to participate in the scholarship program.

Endowed Scholarships

A gift of $130,000.00 will endow one annual scholarship in perpetuity at Africa University. The endowed scholarship established in 1996 by the Rocky River United Methodist Church of Rocky River, OH, has provided support for students from various African countries over the past sixteen years. Direct Scholarships

The cost to educate one student annually at Africa University is $5,645.00. This sum covers tuition, room, board, medical care, and student union fees. International students need an additional $200 to pay their student permit fee. Donors may provide either full or partial direct scholarships. Each year, Indiana Area United Methodists provide at least two full direct scholarships for students at Africa University. Give Now!

Usahwira

In the Shona language, usahwira means "a beautiful friendship". Usahwira is an ongoing initiative of the Africa University Development Office. Local churches are invited to join hands with Africa University and commit to support one student for four years. Purvis United Methodist Church of Purvis, MS was the first to join the Usahwira initiative. [more]
